Garden House Andreasstraße
A typical Berlin industrial inner courtyard, with its former automobile repair shops, coach houses, and a seven-story neighboring firewall, was repurposed into an attractive residential ensemble through the interpretation of urban and historical references.
The residential courtyard fits within the old dimensions of the coach house site, emerging to the height of the firewall to the south and evoking the 'swallow's nest' with its large balconies oriented to the sun. The result is a quiet, sunny, and green residential oasis with 58 apartments in the core of the bustling Berlin district of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg.
The dark clinker façade of the ground floor plinth is reminiscent of these former coach houses and lends it a timeless quality.
